Freedom Is Not Free – Taking Conscious Decisions

“Freedom is not free “is a famous quote that not only applies to the sacrifices of our ancestors that granted us the freedom we’re enjoying now. But also applies on a personal level because even though we are free, some things in our lives hold us hostage. There is always a price to pay: it just depends on the currency you choose to pay it in.

Let’s dive into this

Let’s take your diet as an example. If you eat and drink whatever you want you will end up fat, unfit, and unhealthy unless you have superhuman metabolism. You are going to end up somewhere you don’t like and that is the price you pay for  Indulging in too much food.

However, if you are conscious of your eating habits, exercise regularly, and count your calories, it will pay off.  So, a healthy lifestyle, which is “suffering, “in this case, is the price you’ll pay for a healthier and fitter version of yourself. In the two options, there is a price to pay.

  • For option A:  You’ll be fat, unhealthy, and filled with self-loathing.
  • For Option B:  You’ll be sleeping hungry, then waking up early to run or exercise.

Freedom is not free – conscious decisions

I don’t judge anyone and think what matters is what makes you happy. But you should be honest with yourself and then make a conscious decision.

A conscious decision is the keyword here.

A conscious decision is one the real you makes and not the fake version of yourself.

See more about conscious decisions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPs510TWiOw

Now, ask yourself, are the decisions you make ones that the true you choose?, or have they compromised decisions you make because you’re not really in control of your thoughts and emotions?

… So, in your personal life and business, where do the daily decisions you make come from?

Are those decisions conscious ones? or are they a  product of influence? or even worse, uncontrolled thoughts and emotions?

Regardless of the outcome, , unconscious decisions will always be wrong..  Unconscious decisions are a result of relying too much on someone else to make your decisions for you. So even if the outcome of an unconscious decision is positive, it is wrong because it didn’t come from you. Since the decisions are influenced and a result of your dependency, they can’t have a positive effect.

The inability to make decisions or account for your actions leaves a poor foundation to create a solid personality or business.

The inability to make decisions or account for your actions leaves a poor foundation to create a solid personality or business .. and, that is why you may notice that some company executives perform poorly because they don’t understand how the company or organization works or operates. Typically, someone that rose to the executive position within an organization would have a better understanding.

Over dependency compromises, since it doesn’t serve your interests, so it’s not wise to depend too much on anyone.

I have been under pressure numerous times to produce results, so I made forced decisions under pressure.  These decisions weren’t made because I wanted to; they were made because I had no other choice.

And that’s why the saying, “Desperate times call for desperate measures “, is wrong. Why? It is oversimplified and doesn’t paint a complete picture.

When you have to make a quick decision, you’re stuck between making no decision or taking no action  Most people would rather not take any decision at all, but this doesn’t mean they won’t be taking less risk than someone who makes a decision.

Because no action is an action with its own consequences. So, before you make any decision, forced or conscious, look at the pros and cons. Where are you going to be if you don’t take any action in a week, month, or a year from now? Regardless of your decision or actions, results will come to you.
